Long time Maplewood volunteer, Alaia, is back from college for the summer and working as an intern in our Occupational Therapy (OT) Department. We are thrilled to have her at The Maplewood!
Alaia’s connection with The Maplewood began 6 years ago when she often visited a family member who was living here. She soon became a volunteer and spent over 20 hours a week helping with all kinds of activities and visiting with residents. She received the district and state-wide Volunteer of the Year Award in 2015 for her efforts at The Maplewood.
Through her volunteer work, Alaia discovered her passion for working with the elderly and pursuing a career in OT. She now attends the OT program at University of Buffalo and expects to graduate in 2023.
As an intern, she is learning all about OT, the steps involved and why different therapies are utilized. “I am learning so much,” says Alaia. “And I am especially enjoying spending time with my Maplewood family.”
