Volunteers Enrich Our Lives
February 13, 2017
We are very fortunate. The Maplewood has an amazing support system of volunteers who help us meet the ever changing needs of our residents. These incredible people give of themselves freely to enhance our residents’ quality of life. They help with everything and anything – assisting with the many activities we run, sitting and visiting with residents who benefit from one-on-one support, transporting a number of our residents to and from hair appointments and so much more! Whatever the act might be, they help each and every day as they provide friendship and support for all of our amazing residents.
Everyone’s talents are different. Some people are quieter and don’t enjoy a lot of attention, but they are great listeners. These special people may develop close friendships with our residents as they enjoy coffee with some quiet conversations. There are also volunteers who love to share their talents. Perhaps there is a fabulous artist who enjoys leading painting lessons with groups of residents. Or maybe someone who knows how to arrange flowers and can run a class for all to enjoy. Some people like to be active and keep busy. These are perfect candidates for transporting residents to meals, activities and appointments around the building. There are so many gifts hidden Member within each person that can be shared through volunteering.
Family members are a treasure to our residents. They are often our most understanding volunteers as they can relate to the residents and families in a unique way through their shared experiences. Over the years we’ve had many family members join our crew of volunteers. It is easy to transition into that role, as family members already have a strong connection with The Maplewood Community. Their experience and caring nature is a gift we are so lucky to have. Their knowledge and insight enriches our activities and helps us create training sessions for other volunteers, further benefitting our residents.
Whatever your talents and comfort level might be, we hope you will consider volunteering at The Maplewood. If you are interested in joining our fabulous team of volunteers, please contact Stacey Snyder. Stop in the Activities Room or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
