Making it a Good Place to Work
We’ve all had experiences while shopping, dining or receiving a service when someone goes above and beyond for us. It makes an impact we appreciate and remember.
Recently, I had no idea of how I was going to solve the problem of my sofa moving around on the hard shiny floor when someone went to sit down on it. I tried a couple of quick fixes that never really worked and it drove me crazy. I knew I had to find a solution. As I aimlessly wandered through the big box home improvement store, a young man tapped me on the shoulder and asked if he could help. I described my problem and the man took great interest in trying to solve my issue. You could tell he loved his job and enjoyed solving problems. He came up with something I would have never thought of and it worked like a charm. I was very happy and will definitely go back to that store.
I share this story because it is a great example of how one person made a difference for me. As shoppers decide where to buy goods and services the common thread is almost always the happiness and engagement of the people who work there. The old adage, “happy workers make happy customers” is certainly true.
It is a humbling accomplishment when teammates rate the company where they work highly. How does this happen? No company or job is ever perfect. Smart employers spend time promoting a supportive environment where each member of the staff knows what is expected of them and is recognized for their contributions. As more attention is paid to this activity, it can make a big difference in levels of satisfaction with the company. At Maplewood we continue to make this a high priority every day and we are seeing the benefits of following this path.
Today I am pleased to announce that our Maplewood staff has once again helped our facility achieve a place on the Democrat & Chronicle best places to work list for 2017. This is a well-deserved designation that can only be accomplished by teamwork and a unique sense of attention to what’s important each day. Thanks to one and all for making this happen.
