We are very fortunate. The Maplewood has an amazing support system of volunteers who help us meet the ever changing needs of our residents. These incredible people give of themselves freely to enhance our residents’ quality of life. They help with everything and anything – assisting with the many activities we run, sitting and visiting with residents who benefit from one-on-one support, transporting a number of our residents to and from hair appointments and so much more!
Our volunteer, Mary Jane, arrived today for her popular “Cooking With Mary Jane” series. The Activities Room is always packed when she comes to visit. Everyone loves to talk to Mary Jane as she demonstrates how to make a special dish.
Today she made delicious homemade cornbread. It was such a big hit that we thought we’d share the recipe.
This recipe is from the “Sundays at Moosewood Restaurant” cookbook and is called Sayra’s Cornbread.
When I think of summer, I think of life and energy. It’s the time of year when the sun shines at it’s brightest, feeding our thirst for energy and refreshing our spirits. Summer is always abuzz with movement and life, filling our days with excitement and curiosity. When I think of summer, I think of the fervor of youth.
We are so fortunate to have witnessed the life and energy of the season first-hand here at The Maplewood this summer.
