Wellness Program

Wellness with You in Mind

Health and Happiness go hand and hand. We want our residents to be happy, so we offer the opportunity to participate in unique and progressive wellness programs.

Twice per week, our wellness staff engage residents in a seated class that covers every aspect of healthy living. There are breathing and exercise components that encourage physical fitness and time for storytelling and brain games to keep minds healthy and sharp. We also listen to different types of music – sometimes soft soothing music to keep us in the ‘Zen’ mode or upbeat, fun music to motivate us to keep moving.

Tools & Tips

Choosing a Nursing Facility for Your Loved One

As you perform your research on multiple skilled nursing facilities, we invite you to use our nursing home checklist during your tours. The checklist is a handy tool as you ask questions about resident life, nursing home living spaces, staff, residents’ rooms, hallways, stairs, lounges, bathrooms, menus and food, activities, safety, and care. Requires Adobe Reader in order to view and print.

Therapeutic Services

Ongoing Therapeutic Services Designed for You

We offer full therapy services to all of our long-term residents. With our newly expanded therapy gym, fully qualified therapy professionals and state-of-the-art equipment, you are assured the very best care at The Maplewood.

And because we offer everything under one roof, we can integrate all of your needs through an individual plan of care that changes as your needs change.

Here are a few of the therapies we offer:

Physical Therapy includes exercises designed to improve range of motion, balance and other gross motor functions. It can be useful in improving or maintaining the ability to transfer safely from bed to chair, getting into and out of a car, improving balance or even as an effective pain management tool.

Occupational Therapy focuses on the ability to perform day-to-day, daily living tasks. We work with residents to help improve or maintain the ability to bathe, dress, eat or engage in other fine motor activities.

Restorative Therapy services include both physical and occupational therapies where residents are working with licensed therapists in a goal-based program. Many times this program is offered to restore function following a surgery or illness. After completing the program, many residents move into a maintenance program, tailored to their specific needs.

Restorative Nursing Care refers to our popular maintenance program, which helps residents maintain as much independence as possible.

Working with therapy aides on an individualized plan, residents work through strengthening, stretching and mobility exercises in an effort to maintain range of motion, balance and general physical ability.

Speech & Language Pathologists can assess, treat and help prevent disorders related to speech, language, communication and swallowing concerns.

The Maplewood Difference

Nursing Staff that Grow in The Maplewood Way

The Maplewood offers internal training programs for Certified Nursing Assistants and Unit Assistants. Classes are certified by New York State and include both formal and hands-on experience. From new hires to those promoted from within, we know our staff is well-educated and trained to do their jobs right.

Many of our nursing staff have worked at The Maplewood for their entire careers. For you, that means a well-organized atmosphere where the staff know their jobs and each other and are able to welcome each resident into The Maplewood family.

    Director of Nursing

“Part of my job involves hiring and training nurses and they each shine for different reasons.”

I've always been hands-on in my nursing career, and because we have a holistic approach here, I can provide a level of care to residents that they can't get in other settings. I feel good knowing that something I do – even when it’s indirectly – results in residents having the best experience they can here.

Part of my job involves hiring and training nurses. I've hired new nurses and experienced nurses, and they each shine for different reasons. I love that we are committed to being fully staffed so each resident gets the individual attention they deserve. My own mother was a resident here for four years, and I knew when I left at night that she was in good hands.
